This four-hour classroom course is combined with a comprehensive e-learning package covering the aeronautical knowledge required to prepare for any professional UAS operation in European airspace.

EASA requires anyone operating under the Specific Category to have adequate air navigation skills. This course was developed for UAS operators and pilots intending to work under the Specific Category but who currently do not have demonstrable, relevant air navigation skills (PPL/CPL/RPA-L/etc.) . The EASA Specific Category Navigation Course concludes with a classroom exam at the end of the half-day course. Successful candidates receive a DDA certificate.


  • Half-day in-person workshop at Vliegkamp Valkenburg in Katwijk or at Skytools in Heinenoord.
  • E-learning environment with live exercises
  • Course topics: latitude and longitude, aeronautical charts, positioning, navigation and GNSS/GPS
  • Practical sessions with the Aeret map viewer and paper aeronautical chart
  • Writing an Operational Plan for a flight
  • Followed by a written classroom exam (3 hours training, 15 minute break, 45 minute exam)
  • Coffee, tea, free parking
  • Dividers, pencil, protractor, official laminated ICAO chart
  • Start: 13.00 h, finish 17.00 (including 45 minute exam)

The e-learning part of this course is also included in the STS-01/02 theory course. This course can also be delivered at your site, for a minimum of 8 participants.
